For some reason it took a day for the post to come via email. Huh.

Well, how about cross-posting all the 972 articles (and others) here? At least post the first paragraph then a link to 972... but don't let OnTheFace die! The internet would just be a lesser place. :-|

This "interview" was terrible. The correspondent did not challenge or question the crux of the story: 1. Was this incident a fabrication?, 2. What was the main arguments and points of his accusers and how did he respond to them, and 3. What would he do differently now in reporting the story. It was a very sympathetic and softball interview. The only thing I got out of it was that the France II reporter approaches his reporting from an anti-Israeli perspective. Dennis Ross, Bill Clinton's special Middle East negotiator during the Oslo process pointed out in his book that Israel made a "generous" offer to Arafat which was rejected out of hand with no counters. This interviewer should have asked about this. Real bad piece.

MH - I have already written about the story of Mikael Nabil, with whom I have mutual friends. Don't expect me to write about every single story that occurs; but equally, do read my articles carefully before commenting.

Fiona - The Mubarak sons are being detained pending investigation into corruption charges. That is the equivalent of detention without bail pending trial. The trial of the Mubarak sons will take place when the investigation is complete. They will be represented by counsel in a civilian court.

The idea of having subway stations and public squares named after a living ruler are the hallmarks of a dictatorship and their removal is a welcome sign. Not so, however, is the jailing of Mubarak and his two sons. No dictator in the Arab world will step down voluntarily after seeing what happened to the Mubarak family: they will bomb the resistance as in Libya, will gun down demonstrators as in Syria, and will fight to the end, with bloody results. I find the arrest of Mubarak's family, without a trial, very disturbing and think that it bodes ill for the future.
I almost want to sign off with an imitation of Maurice Chevalier "Ah yes, I remember it well", signed :Danton and Robespierre, but the situation hardly calls for humour.
