How can the writer be sure that the person overheard speaking on the cellphone wasn't saying 'YOU Wall Street bankers' in a Latino accent? ;) Joking aside I've experienced one or two moments of dread when among friends discussing the economic crisis, fearing that someone will bring up "the Jews" but so far it hasn't come to that - my paranoia or a well-founded hunch that it is on the tips of their tongues? It also reminded me of a story my grandmother told about overhearing a conversation between two women in 1940s London who were discussing a company that was having problems - being investigated for fraud, perhaps?
