David Harris of the Media Line prepared this unusually even-handed report.

  1. A good report and one that focuses on the human side of the conflict without getting too deep into the politics. But while the two sides may be united in fear, the reporter wisely stopped short of trying to claim that they were united in their desire for a peaceful end to the conflict.

  4. The report completely ignores the REASONS behind the fear.

Civilian institutions in Gaza are being hit by Israel primarily because these locations are where where Hamas sets its booby traps, stores its weapons, hides its fighters and launches its rockets, whereas civilian institutions in Israel are being hit by Hamas in an attempt to kill as many civilians as possible.

I feel horrible for the civilians who are dying in Gaza. But when the media fails to point out the fact that Hamas is to blame for THEIR danger as well as the danger to Israeli civilians, the media is distorting the reality on the ground, encouraging insane hatred of Israel even outside the region and as a consequence and making Hamas feel that its strategy is worth it. This, in turn, will cause Hamas to do more of this in the future. The ONLY way to prevent Hamas from using human shields in the future is for the world media and public opinion to mercilessly shred them for doing so. The more it costs them in the court of world opinion, the fewer Gazans they will murder in the future through this kind of evil activity.

I seriously do not understand why those people who claim to love and support the Palestinians do not absolutely GUT any Palestinian organization that destroys Palestinian lives in this fashion. Can you explain that?

  5. I’ve watched it twice, and it’s as even handed as possible, and quite sad.

  6. An excellent report, and as you say, even-handed.

It has also confirmed to me that if I had to choose between living in Gaza or Sderot, I’d much rather be in Sderot (not that living there is easy or safe, but it is still safer than life Gaza at the moment).

  7. Magnanimously even-handed. Frankly, I’ve seen nothing like it before today, and I see heaps of these on an hourly basis…what’s Davis’ track record like?

  8. Whenever I see reports of this type, with their split screen and REM’s “Everybody Hurts” playing in the background, I can’t help but remember a line from the Bosnian (?) film No Man’s Land, where the UN officer says:
“Neutrality does not exist in the face of murder. Doing nothing to stop it is, in fact, choosing. It is not being neutral.”

Plus it isn’t really even-handed. Let’s dissect the segment: Most of the report – and all the reporting – takes place in Sderot. The panic is Israeli. The split screen gives 2 hospital scenes, 2 funeral scenes, but the weeping mothers are solely Israeli. The rocket launches – twice – are Palestinian, however.

    Even-handed? Sorry. Absolutely not.
