Lisa,

Been reading your latest entries, but i really didn't want to pipe in too much, in the midst of all this naysaying. Needless to say, I'm entirely on your side on this one. You made a very good case as to why this law doesn't really make much sense (Israeli journalists could be abducted anywhere, not just enemy states), and is curtailing to the freedom of the press, thus making it contrary to some of the very basic tenets of Democracy.

Cheers.

Tsedek - Rinat has been abroad for the past 10 weeks. I spoke with her a few days ago, and she said she did not take her Israeli mobile with her. So it's possible someone tried unsuccessfully to contact her.

David - Many thanks for your best wishes - that's very kind of you. Re. Daniel Pearl. Born in the United States to Israeli parents and abducted in Pakistan, which is not classified as an enemy state under the Infiltration Prevention Law. An excellent example that goes to one of my points - that there is a risk of abduction anywhere in the world. The IPL is not keeping Israelis any safer by by forbidding them to travel to states classified as "enemy."

Do not forget Daniel Pearl.

Also you should ask other journalists who get around a bit how risks and situations can change immediately and dramatically. I was arrested 2 times at gun point - one time in Albania and one time in Kashmir (Indian part). Both times without further consequences. But you start to think.

Anyway it is still unfair that is you who has the investigation. Clearly, someone wants to make an example of this and I wish you all the best.

Lisa, answer me on this one please. I didn't want to ask because I don't want to put any ideas into anyone's head, but it has been on my mind ever since I heard of your investigation:

why wasn't Rinat investigated? I remember very clearly a picture of her on the front page of the (printed) newspaper in front of a Hizballah installation.

why?
