I don’t understand anything about facebook. How can people move about it with such ease?? I have ended up in ‘groups’ like “ban Turkey” (huh??) and “lebanese against religion” (huh/huh??) and that sort of things. I feel I’m being kidnapped there

Actually you can’t compare FB in Israel and in the States. In the USA they opened facebook almost 3 years ago, and one university at a time. Wherever they opened it, everyone joined in a swift. It’s only recently that they have opened it up widely to anyone anywhere, so it’s not surprising that now we are seeing the Israeli exponential growth. I would give it one more month at the most before the growth rate will slowly stabilize and decline to normal figures.

The thing go so popular around the globe all of a sudden because, for quite a while, only college students – with a valid university e-mail address (ending in .edu) – could sign up. That built up anticipation in the non-collegiate world.

I give it more than a year, though – for Israel and elsewhere. First because I think it’s still on the growth phase; second, because it’s gotten so big already that it’ll take a while to be replaced. The law of numbers…
