Northern and Southern cheesecake

This post is dedicated to Anglosaxy, in honour of his much-loved homo sapiette series (right sidebar, under the photo of Anglosaxy junior ;) )

When I was growing up in the 1980s, Paris Match used to run a lot of photo essays of Princess Diana and Princess Caroline, often with some variation on the question “who's more elegant?” or “who's more beautiful?”

Here's my Mid East version of the Caroline v. Di contest. It's called Haifa v. Shiri.

Haifa

Shiri

Recently I discovered Haifa Wehbe, the sexy Lebanese pop star whose current hits include “I'm Haifa,” and “Kiss the boo boo,” (check out these photos on Haitham's blog).

For some reason, Haifa reminds me of Israeli singer Shiri Maimon. Below is a video of each pop star moaning her way through her signature song. Click on the arrow to view, and state your preference (or abhorrence, if you want) in the comments. ;)

Haifa Wehbe: “Ana Haifa” (I'm Haifa)

Shiri Maimon: “Ahava Ktana” (Little Love)

  6. The lesbotronic in me says Shiri. Though blah on both, hardly any room for sexy left.

  7. The first girl's music makes my ears bleed, and the second girl thinks she's Shakira. They're both gorgeous.

  8. Well, since you asked: I find both songs quite disposable (which might well be different if I could speak the languages), and neither of the women does much for me. I'm afraid I have very simple tastes :-) If forced to choose (to complete the poll) I'd say Haifa, but the preference is minor (brown hair rather than blonde).
Have a look at/listen to our fellow Canadian Sarah McLaughlan for my musical, econo-political and aesthetic preference.

  9. Here's a bit of irony: Shiri is from Haifa. Huh.

  10. Haifa for looks –Shiri looked much better before she peroxided her hair (ok, like I'm one to talk…:) and the makeup they did on her in this video is ghoulish. Shiri gets the vote on the voice though.

  12. my oh my..well haifa is very hot man..but this clip is just sad! (i'm lebanese but i havent seen it before, talke about trauma)
and shiri is really a shakira wannabe..but at lease you can listen to her voice without immediately closing that window (haifa CAN NOT sing and lebanese people absolutely know that..but isnt she a sight for sore eyes)

  13. Funny you should mention “Haifa”. My husband (an american) and I were in the city of Haifa last year & some relatives were watching “Haifa”, my husband walks in watching her and drooling and professing what a great singer she is and everytime one of us said something “quiet Haifa is singing” He had all of us laughing so hard. A young cousin comes in puts the mute button on the TV and tells him “this is how you listen and watch Haifa” . It made for a memorable moment for all of us and no language barrier needed.

  15. Haifa is HOT. I'm a little surprised since she's several years older than me and I don't like older women but she is HOT. Haven't yet listened to her song, though I really like Shiri's voice.
